Computer games can take many forms. The tactical prowess of players is tested in strategy games, both turn-based and real-time. There is a similar appeal to puzzle games, but they often involve twitchy, block-dropping, or item-shifting controls. While the shooter genre is extremely popular, you must keep blasting enemies until they are reduced to a pile of ashes. A shooter can either be first-person or third-person from the shooter’s perspective.

In recent years, there have been some notable standouts in that sub-genre, including the demon-slaying Doom (2016) and its follow-up, Doom Eternal. On the other hand, third-person shooters look cooler because you can see the whole picture of your avatar as it traverses the battlefield, rather than being limited to the part of his head on screen. The video game Vanquish from Platinum Games is a perfect example of this since you can watch as Sam Gideon flies across the battlefield in his ability-enhancing power armor.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite

Online co-op action is like no other way to kill freakish monsters. Xenomorph outbreaks on a Weyland-Yutani colony put you in the shoes of a hardened Colonial Marine tasked with investigation and rescue missions. The game requires you to complete various missions and collect loot and valuables to improve your marine. Co-op play is supported online for three players, but you can also play solo. Aliens: Fireteam Elite creates an addictive gaming loop with 1980s action, memorable movie visuals, and engaging combat.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

One of the most iconic games of its generation is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO), a free-to-play shooter game from Valve. As a 2012 first-person shooter, CS: GO builds on an FPS heritage that includes Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike: Source, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. In spite of the fact that this game has a NetBet -like feel to it, where you need to use real money in order to open the game crates, you aren’t required to spend any real money to play it.

Battlefield V

Battlefield V does not bring about any major changes in terms of first-person shooters, but it includes some good features. The World War II-themed game developed by EA DICE boasts a stunning backdrop and a thrilling gameplay experience that will keep you running and shooting for hours on end. Battlefield V combines exciting single-player content with a fresh take on multiplayer gameplay to become a modern first-person shooter. In addition, the game’s signature environmental destruction is displayed magnificently in Firestorm, the squad-based battle royale mode.

Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 bring developers Gearbox Entertainment and publisher 2K Games back to the comedy-filled warring zone. First-person shooters will be familiar to those who have played the original Borderlands. Vault Hunters is a treasure hunting game where you search on barely settled planets for alien vaults. The guffaw-filled game has you collecting amazing guns with their unique stats and attributes. As you mow down robots, mutants, and Mad Max-style raiders using heavy metal, there is an almost infinite number of enemies to kill.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty has had a lot of highlights in recent years, from WWII campaigns to space adventures to battle royales. However, Infinity Ward’s reboot of the seminal 2007 game grounds Calls of Duty despite its deviation from its roots. Modern Warfare’s campaign and multiplayer modes are purely tactical, as one would expect from a Call of Duty title, yet all superfluous elements are stripped away. Modern Warfare is not without cool features, though. For example, a reward-based morality system gives you points for discerning innocent people from legitimate threats in the single-player campaign.

Doom (2016)

There is nothing here that resembles the 1993 original. Yet, it is the game that exceeded expectations, the best game of the 2016 series. This time, you will battle hell’s minions on Mars as the armed-to-the-teeth Doom Slayer. Therefore, skeleton men with goat legs, flying skulls with flames, and other monstrous creatures attack from all sides. Doom, the id Software-crafted demon-bashing title, combines frantic gameplay with a heavy metal soundtrack to create an unholy game that is satisfying and frightening.

Doom Eternal

The game added more weapons, more demons, an incredible stage design, and an incredible heavy metal soundtrack to reimagine the classic shooter. Things are turned up to eleven with Doom Eternal, the sequel to that game. The storyline of Doom Eternal has more elements than Doom 2016, especially the origin story of the Doom Slayer, but the story is not the heart of this game. Instead, doom Eternal is a game with a single goal: killing demons with increasingly brutal methods. Doom Eternal is a worthy follow-up to one of the best contemporary shooters on the market, promising satisfying stage navigation, a treasure trove of secrets to find, and a new 2-vs.-1 multiplayer Battlemode.

Gears 5

Xbox Game Studios’ third-person shooter Gears 5 is the first to ditch the “of War” suffix, but do not be fooled: It is still Gears of War. Continuing the battle between the Coalition of Ordered Government (COG) and the alien Swarm, Gears 5 is Gears 4’s direct sequel. Although Gears 5’s multiplayer modes are merely average, the game’s storytelling, cover mechanics, and excellent visuals make up for them. Whether you are a Gears veteran or a newcomer, Gears 5 is still dependable.
